Botox for Chronic Migraines

Botulinium Toxin will not just relax muscles, smooth out wrinkles and enhance your beauty but it will also fight chronic migraines.

Chronic migraine is defined as more than 15 migraines per a month period for more than 3 months and symptoms lasting for 8 days every month. Symptoms include pain on one side or both side of the head, nausea, vomiting, blurred vision and sensitivity to light, smells and even touch. For those who are unlucky enough to experience this they will also testify to the debilitating effect that this can have on their lives even restricting just completing normal day to day activities.

Botulinum toxin is a safe and well-tolerated treatment for patients with chronic migraine. Recent studies have shown that patients who were treated regularly with botulinium toxin had an average of 1.6 fewer migraine attacks per month, compared to those treated with inactive placebo. The improvement was apparent within two months of botulinum toxin treatment. They are repeatedly injected every three months to sustain the effects of treatment. Importantly, there was a significant improvement in quality of life in patients treated with botulinum toxin which was directly linked to a reduction in depressive symptoms.

“It can be explained by the reduced impact of headaches and migraine-related disability, thus reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety,” said Professor Benoit Chaput, from the varsity.

Really positive news for those unfortunate to suffer with this.
